Step-by-Step Guide to Installing PVC Hygienic Wall Cladding

For best results, watch the installation video below or follow the step-by-step guide to complete your PVC wall cladding installation.

PVC Wall Cladding Installation Steps

1

Wall Preparation

Make sure the wall is dry, clean and grease-free before you begin. Remove wallpaper, loose/soluble paint and any contaminants. Check the surface is flat and even, then fill low spots and flatten high spots to create a solid bonding base.

Checklist

CHECKLIST

Dry substrate, clean surface, flat finish and good key for adhesive.

2

Concrete Block & Brick

Level blockwork and brickwork using plaster or suitable concrete compounds. You can use adhesive, but on highly textured surfaces you may not achieve 100% contact. For best results, aim for a smooth, even finish first.

Concrete Block & Brick

TIP

Smoother walls = stronger bond and fewer voids behind panels.

3

Special Conditions & High Humidity

Ensure concrete is fully cured and completely dry. Where walls are below grade or moisture may penetrate, fit furring strips and use mechanical fixings so moisture doesn’t interfere with adhesive performance.

Special Conditions & High Humidity

WHEN TO FIX

Use battens + fixings where moisture risk could affect adhesion.

4

Painted Surfaces

Remove any loose paint before applying adhesive. Adhesive only bonds to the paint layer, so ensure paint is firmly adhered. Where strength is critical, combine adhesive with mechanical fixings for extra security.

Painted Surfaces

KEY POINT

If the paint fails, the panel bond fails—prepare properly.

5

Uneven Surfaces

Installing over uneven walls can reduce adhesion and may create air pockets behind panels. This won’t compromise the system if you follow the recommended spacing and sealing procedure, but levelling first always improves the finish.

Uneven Surfaces

GOOD PRACTICE

Level where possible to reduce voids and improve panel contact.

6

High/Low Temperature Conditions

Allow for expansion and contraction and choose an adhesive rated for site conditions. Follow both panel and adhesive guidance carefully, especially where temperature changes are likely during or after installation.

High/Low Temperature Conditions

REMEMBER

Temperature affects movement—leave the correct expansion gap.

7

Applying Adhesive

Apply adhesive exactly as the manufacturer recommends. The most common issue is using too much or too little, so keep bead height consistent. Make sure adhesive reaches all panel edges to maximise the bonding surface area.

Applying Adhesive

AVOID

Over/under-applying adhesive—keep the bead consistent throughout.

8

Fitting Wall Panels

Start in a corner using the bottom profile (J-Connector or Floor Wall Cover) and mark a plumb vertical line for the first sheet. Fit the one-piece corner profile, apply silicone, slide the panel in then withdraw 3mm to create the recommended gap. If using adhesive, roll from the top corner nearest the profile down and out with a laminate roller to remove trapped air. Fit fasteners as you go (before the right-hand profile) to keep panels flat and help prevent air pockets.

Fitting Wall Panels

ALIGN + ROLL

Use plumb lines, leave a 3mm gap, and roll outwards to remove air.
